Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Los Angeles premier of SPUN - the whacked-out rock-video tweaker movie. Get yourself a dime bag and a date and go see this flick. It's destined to become a cult classic. Hollywood's brat pack are all fucked up (kudos to the make-up artist) nerd gone bezerk Jason Schwartzman drives a Volvo (go figure) Brittany Murphy is hot hot hot, Mena Suvari is so not she's hot, John Luguizamo gets naked and Micky Rourke totally steals the show....

I'm running out the door to have dinner with Mr. Miller's parents and of course I'm always late. The yard sale was relatively successful- I made a whopping $35.00. Hmm that's about $7.00/hr...

It's My Sister's 50th Birthday Today HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMMER!

If you're in LA please come to my screening tomorrow 3/23 - 8pm at the Echo Park Film Center.

Oh yeah- To the person at the Whitney Museum who was looking at my site this week- hey who are you? did we go to college together? or are you one of the peeps who rejected me from the studio program in '98? can you tell me what all of that fuss was about? or more specifically why my application was so controversial and supposedly fucked with some art colleagues' personal relationships? my source refused to give me the details but I'm dying to know more ... mailto:margie@babyhans.com
17 March
Amanda Lynn of anthropophagy.com (on hiatus-stay tuned for further details) just sent me a pic of herself from her new home in the deep dark woods of a midwestern state that begins with the letter M. I can't tell you exactly which state because Amanda's quite a heart breaker and I don't want any of her stalkers to come knocking on her door in the middle of the night. (note shotgun) What I can tell you though is that the particular region of the country where Amanda is hiding out in, is well, okay. It happens to be quite beautiful and coincidentally, one of the only places between the east & west coast where people didn't think I was a Ho when I happened to be traveling cross-country solo in short shorts and jack boots . So Amanda's on a 'back- to- nature kick, writing a novel and I miss her a bunch. I'm worried that all of that clean air & nature has corrupted her -I think she's taken on a bit of Hunter S. Thompkins-esque persona. And I'm concerned that one night she's gonna get loaded and blow away some perv on a barstool who's hitting on her. Well I suppose, in this country we all do have the right to bear arms but hey Amanda, did you really have that much of a problem with the Valley.....

Amanda responds:
"Hunter S. Thompson was much more interesting and suicidal than I could ever
hope -- but I try to keep the dream alive, baby."

RIP Jack Goldstein 1945-2003

Babyhans is very sorry to hear about Jack Goldstien's untimely death and extends condolences to his friends and loved ones. Last year I happened to hear Mr. Goldstein speak in William Jones' film class at Art Center (I was a guest, not a student thank you) & although I have little sympathy for whining junkie 'victims' & Jack Goldstein came off like he must have fucked over a bunch of people in the 80's, I think his art/film work is totally vital and I was glad that he was getting much-deserved recognition for his old films.
With such renewed interest in his work, seems like such a bad time to off oneself- if that is indeed what really happened.

15 March
I think i have a hiatal hernia or some other kind of stress-related condition that my mother has. I haven't even been drinking. I fantasize about drinking an excessive amount of alcohol but it doesn't seem to agree with my system anymore. I drank 2 beers the other night to make myself sleepy and yes I did sleep easily but awoke with a strange headache. Perhaps I should forget about the booze and try Zanax the next time.
So I'd given myself two weeks to come up with creative ways to make money from my art/life so I wouldn't have to find another day job. To psych myself up I'd bought a copy of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" (Stephen R. Covey) at my neighbor's yard sale for only fifty cents. I've been chainsmoking my way through the book ever since, well that is until I picked up a copy of "500 Ways to Beat the Hollywood Script Reader," (Jennifer Lerch) which of course I find alit more compelling- not only because I got it free from the library & the author doesn't keep trying to sell me more self-help paraphernalia (as Mr. Covey seems to) but because it doesn't make any allusions to organized religion, and doesn't contain any psycho personality pies or flow charts. Oh yeah and it's real simple- I just have to remember 500 things and even though I do have to be proactive, I don't have to change any of my bad habits. I figure that if, in my last script, I managed to get about 400 out of the 500 tricks correct, all I have to do is make the script 80% better. I'm almost ready to start working on it again. Well Habit Number 3 of 7 tells me: Put First Things First. So does that mean rewrite the script (am integral part of the Quadrant II The Time Management Matrix) Important/Not Urgent Activities or deal with the Quadrant I Activities (Important/Urgent) of the balance of this month's credit card bills, ($300) the surprise $150 in roaming charges from blabbing on my cell phone at Sundance, my home phone & utility bills I haven't paid in a couple of months, the 2 weeks 'til next months rent, car insurance, art storage, more utility & credit card bills, front & rear shocks, differential... art life, script or day job. I think it's gonna take more than 2 weeks ... again.
9 March
It's 3pm & I'm still in my bathrobe. I went outside to water the garden (yes in my bathrobe of course in my very public front yard) and the hose sprung a leak, spraying me with rancid California water. I think I'll play it safe and stay inside until the sun goes down. I mean when the day starts like that who knows what else can happen?
Please come see my videos at the Echo Park Film Center Sunday March 23rd @ 8pm. EPFC is located at 1200 N. Alvarado in the Blue Arts Blding at the Corner of Sunset & Alvarado. Admission is only 5 bucks for a 90 minute program. You don't really want to watch the Academy Awards anyway do you? Click here to view the Official INVITE.
So last night Mr. M carcked the whip & said that I have to work on my new script for at least 5 minutes every day. I've been at for 3 hours today and have used the writing process as my primary excuse for not getting out of my bathrobe. Gee, back when my life was irresponsible and fun there was always a much better reason (than work) to stay half-naked most of the day ...... BTW- We're having a yard sale next weekend. I'm selling off half my porn collection along with a bunch of hipster chatchkes, clothes, books, magazines, and an excessive amount of boho crap. Email me for details as I don't feel like posting my address online. Remember my stalkers are still out there.

7 March
Mr. M's parents are here for a visit which means that Hans & have to sleep alone. I could expend a lot of energy with the details of why we're not sleeping in the same bed, but I'll just cut to the chase:
Sleeping Alone Sucks. Especially when you're accustomed to snuggling beside the same person in the same bed, in exactly the same way, every night, for a number of years.
For those of you (20-somethings?) who may find the prospect of sleeping beside the same person every night kind of dull, let me clarify the difference between sleeping beside someone and fucking. You can fuck anyone anywhere anytime any place any how any way. Just because you fuck someone doesn't mean it's easy to sleep beside them . Like what if they snore? hate your dog? talk too much? have The Howard Stern Show on the clock-radio alarm?

So my NY Post horoscope is especially good today. I think I'm destined to win the Lottery tomorrow:

Your Horoscope for March 7, 2003
SCORPIO (sun)
So far, 2003 may have been a bit of a letdown, but don't worry because what happens early next week will make up for it in a big way. Creatively and romantically, there are going to be some major changes over the next few weeks, and no matter how much you prepare yourself mentally, you will still be caught unawares. But it's all good news, so don't worry.
Your Horoscope for March 7, 2003
LEO (ascendant)
The time has come to turn your back on people who do nothing but talk you down and wear you down. It does not matter that you owe them for some favor done in the dim and distant past because you have paid it back many times over. Put your own needs first and cut yourself free of ties that stop you making the most of your talents.

BTW if any of you are wondering why I've got all web-productive & personal all of a sudden it's because I've been inspired by www.wander-lust.com

From Carole Annne/ Red Ed of Webbittown.net:
Hi Everyone,
Colin DeLand has passed on to another plane of art existence.CD was one of my best friends. He was a good friend to a fair amount of you that I write this to.
Charlie Finch broke the story on ArtNet.com earlier today. I have no follow-up as to a funeral, wake or anything as I write this email, but I am sure that one will happen somewhere.
I met Colin back in the early 80's when he started up Vox Populi Gallery on E. 6th Street. It was the wild and woolley days of artists, galleries and whatnot.

When all the 3 year leases on the galleries ended, and the days of cheap rent ended, off to Soho and lower Wooster St. he went. American Fine Arts Co. was here to stay. Colin helped a ton of artists get their start in the artworld. There wasn't anything he didn't help support. Street art, New Mediaart, tradiional performance, painting, you name it, and Colin was involved in it. Almost no one reading this mail wasn't in American Fine Arts Co. at one time or another over the last 20 years. A flood of memories are now circulating in my spirit. Eddie, Magda, Angie, Jackie, and Daniel, his right hand guys and gals. Susie Mallook and the Jean Michele Basquiat romance, The Colin DeLand Dealer collectible card (with my picture on it), His never ending support of Peter Fend (so he could have a couple of pennies to rub together), endless runs to Ray's News on Ave. A for coffee and cigarettes, the old 79 Chevy and the alternate side of the street parking game on 6th Street, borrowing money for plane fare to Minneapolis for whatever the emergency was at the time, coffee and cigarettes from the deli on West Broadway, the collection of baseball hats, Colin was usually the first to get the latest edition of 'The NetLetter' when it came out, mini-Budwieiser's at his openings, and the always the same look opening cards with the heavy creme card stock, trips to this art happening or that. There are so many things that are rushing though me to say them all. CD even showed up in court for me more than once, when no one else would show up, and there was some kind of injustice going on. Someone once referred to Colin as "a poor man's Leo Castelli". Before I break down here, I will let you all know when something happens.
Colin DeLand.

dog bites delay mail 21 February
GUS HUDSON carries a sign created by Margie and inadvertently speaks to an LA Weekly reporter:

"... As, of course, does the enduring human need to be heard — about anything, anywhere, anytime. "Dog Bites Delay Mail" declared the cardboard on a stick carried by a tall, blond geeky-looking man in aviator glasses, marching with his two women friends.
"Excuse me," I interrupted. "I don't get your sign."
"Oh," he said. "It just means that postal workers shouldn't have to put up with dogs."
"Right," I said. "You do know, though, that this is an anti-war rally,
not a post-office rally?"
"Sure," he said. "But there's TV cameras everywhere. We want to get our message out, too.
"And anyway," he added, almost as an afterthought, "why should I carry an anti-war sign? Everybody already knows this war is a really dumbidea."

FLASHBACK 1990: The Lost Poems
While cleaning out a file cabinet the other day I came upon these poems which I had believed to be lost forever. They were written shortly after leaving my cosmopolitan NYC for the cattle country of Kansas City to complete my undergraduate degree. The one that stands out in my mind the most- which was about my childhood friend having sex with Vanessa Williams (remember the Playboy pics?) is truly lost forever, so if you any of you out there who went to school with me happen to have a copy of that poem in an old notebook, please email it to me. Okay, Now I'm ready to really embarrass myself - read on...............
