OUTFEST’S Highly Anticipated Multimedia Performance Art Extravaganza
To Take Place July 19th in Los Angeles’ legendary Ambassador Hotel
(LOS ANGELES) Curated by Shari Frilot & Right Hand Man, Silas "Flipper"
Howard, OUTFEST’s third annual Platinum multimedia mega performance event,
PLATINUM SNAPMEAT, announces the artist lineup for this year’s event, which
is scheduled to take place on Saturday July 19th from 8pm to 2:00 a.m. at the
legendary Ambassador Hotel (3400 Wilshire Blvd.) in Los Angeles, California.
PLATINUM SNAPMEAT is not for the faint of heart and no one under 21 years of
age will be admitted.
PLATINUM SNAPMEAT
is an event of OUTFEST 2003: The 21st Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival
as part of their experimental section of the festival called Platinum.
A complete stage line up and listing of artist installations is attached.
MAD MAX meets TRUCK STOP WOMEN in this fully immersive mythic multimedia
megaperformance event featuring an internet installation by world-famous art
star, Shu Lea Cheang. It is the New American Century Los Angeles 2030. The super
pipeline that pumps oil directly from the Middle East to the truck stops has
wiped out the lot lizards’ operating ground, American neo-colonialism has
pipelined the sex trade into a vehicle art thug community of Winnebagos, Silver
Bullets, big rigs, tricked-out campers and peculiar limousines where bands play
on an outlaw stage, a giant pig roasts and the buying and selling of SnapMeat
(audience participants) occurs.
The "Snapper Gangs" digitally photograph audience participants and
once people are "snapped" (involuntarily photographed) they become
SnapMeat and go up for sale on the wireless electronic auction block set up
on the lot. Hungry and venturesome patrons loaded with carny-currency $G notes
bid on the SnapMeat then take their purchases to private quarters where they
will be served a scintillating cocktail. The SnapMeat can then be savored and
resold with G-currency. The Snapper Gangs build their Meat Market empire --
good ol’ American style!PLATINUM SNAPMEAT features musical acts Medusa,
Mr. Dan’s Dragstrip 66, Stay At Home Bomb featuring veteran rockers Alice
Bag (The Bags, Cholita), Lysa Flores (Queen of the roc en Espanol scene), Judy
Cocuzza and Sharon Needle (of Betty Blowtorch fame), Victor Wilde’s Kiki
and the Travelling Trollops, The CircuitSide (w/indie rocker girls (Radio, The
Need; Dvin, Tadpole; Patricia, Patsy), William Van Rooy & Robert Zimmer’s
SALO (formerly NuWave Hustlers) and a cameo dance set by DJ Linda Kennedy.
Projection performance installations presented by Animal Charm, Kadet Kuhne
& Reto Schmid, and Tiffany Trenda. Vehicle Art Thug installations by The
Velvet Hammer, Margie Schnibbe, Jenny Shimizu, Christopher Strother, Steakhaus
Productions, Denis Cagna, David Rajter, The Toxic Titties, tattoo master artist
Leslie Mah and Christopher Lee. Snapper Gangsters include renown photographers
Cathy Opie, Julie Burleigh, Rick Castro, Kaucyila Brooke, Jen Kolmel, Annalee
Lanier, Durand Williams, Kevin McCarty, Cory Radke and Matt Jordan. Snapper
Gangster outfits designed by Henry Membreño. In all more than 30 artists/performers
will be featured at Platinum SnapMeat, making it the most adventurous and unique

Platinum Oasis is the anchor event for Platinum, which is curated by Shari Frilot
and is the experimental section of OUTFEST: The 21st Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian
Film Festival (July 10-21). This year, in addition to the Platinum Oasis festivities,
Platinum brings you two feature length films: DECAY OF FICTION directed by Pat
O’Niell and DADDY COOL directed by Brady Lewis. Platinum will also feature
two shorts programs: PLATINUM SHORTS, an international program of experimental
short films and videos, and ADOLESCENT BOYS AND LIVINGROOMS, curated by Astria
Suparak.
OUTFEST is the pre-eminent and largest gay and lesbian multimedia entertainment
organization in the world. OUTFEST’s mission is to build bridges among
audiences, filmmakers and the entertainment industry through the year-round
exhibition of diverse, high quality gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender themed
films and videos, and to raise the discourse on gay and lesbian issues. OUTFEST
